Ronald James Sears passed away May 20, 2010, in the comfort of his home with his wife, sons and close friends by his side. His "homegoing to heaven" was preceded by a valiant battle with cancer that first appeared in September of 2004.
Ron was born November 23, 1946, to Alma James Sears and Dorothy Edrice (Benston) Sears in Miami, Florida. The family lived in Snohomish, Washington, most of Ron's life, until he joined the Marine Corps in 1964. Ron was a radio-telegrapher in the First Marine Division. He served a 13-month tour in Vietnam in 1964-1965. After his honorable discharge in 1968, he resided in Redondo Beach and attended El Camino College in Hermosa Beach.
Ron worked in the commercial window and floor covering business most of his life. He moved to June Lake, California, in 1972, where he had his own carpet store until 1978. He then moved back to Southern California and again opened a window and floor covering store in Huntington Beach.
Ron met Joyce Middleton in August of 1981, and they married August 25, 1984. The family relocated to Graeagle in July of 2002 and moved to Portola in 2007.
In passing, Ron leaves his loving wife of 25 years, Joyce; daughter Alison Diaz and son-in-law, Cristino "Cris" Diaz, of Kilbourne, Ohio; sons Harley, 16, and Clayton, 13; and two beautiful granddaughters, Izabela Diaz, 9, and Lilyana Diaz, 3. Ron's passions in life were his family and his growing relationship with his Lord, along with fishing, restoring cars, and sports. He loved watching his boys' games and coached them during their years in Little League. Ron enjoyed sharing his passions with his children and anyone else who would listen.
His children will always remember their dad as a strong father who balanced seriousness and humor in teaching life's important lessons.
Ron will be greatly missed by all who knew him and his passion for life. His family and friends take great comfort in knowing he now resides in the presence of our Lord and Savior. 2 Timothy 4:7 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge will award to me on that day". As a friend wrote, "The world has lost a good man, but heaven has gained a wonderful saint."
A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 30, at 2 p.m., at the Graeagle Community Church with Pastor Mike Preston officiating. A graveside service for family and close friends will be held Monday, May 31, 2010, at 9 a.m., at the Whispering Pines Cemetery in Portola.
Donations in Ron's honor can be made to the Graeagle Community Church, P.O. Box 1208, Graeagle, CA 96103.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the Tahoe Forest Hospice for their devoted care and exceptional service to Ron and them. They also would like to thank Greg and Trecy Marr of Manni Funeral Home for their compassionate service.
