Robert H. St. Germain passed away peacefully on February 11, 2010, at his home in Blairsden, CA, with his wife Gloria at his side. He and Gloria were very grateful for the love, guidance and support provided by so many – particularly, Pastor Mike Preston, caregivers Kim and Heidi from hospice, and Kathy Roth and Pat Grew, also from hospice, who always put a smile on his face.

Bob was born on December 20, 1931, in Plattsburgh, NY, to George Henry St. Germain and Louise Arnold St. Germain. After graduation from high school in 1950, he enlisted in the Navy to satisfy his desire for travel. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1954, Bob attended Plattsburg State University graduating in 1960 with a BS in Education. During his senior year he was elected President of the House of Delegates, the student governing body. It was the first time a student had ever been elected as a write-in candidate. He also founded a chapter of the Student Education Association of New York State, and was elected first Vice-President of the Student National Education Association. The University had prepared him well for teaching, and he taught sixth grade for three years in White Plains, NY. However, his education and experiences led Bob to make a greater contribution to education through a long and rewarding career as a teacher advocate. He served four years as a staff member with the New York State Teachers Association, three years as Executive Director of the Rochester Teachers Association, one year as a Negotiation Specialist with the National Education Association, five years as Executive Director of the Palm Beach County Florida Teachers Association and 20 years as the Executive Director of the Fresno Teachers Association. Shortly after arriving in Fresno in 1975, Bob met Gloria, the love of his life. They were married in South Lake Tahoe on November 24, 1990, and they enjoyed 19 more years together.

All those who knew him and shared time on the golf course with him, would agree that golf was Bob’s number one passion. He especially enjoyed his times playing with friends at Fig Garden Golf Course. After retirement, Bob and Gloria moved to the Graeagle area to enjoy the beautiful mountains and golf courses of the Sierra Nevada. He loved the many rounds of golf enjoyed with children, grandchildren and good friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his father George and mother Louise St. Germain and his brothers Barney and Richard St. Germain. Bob is survived by his wife Gloria; daughter Tina Kunkel; sons, William Kandarian (Brandi), Michael Kandarian (Denise); Arthur Mendoza (Lisa); Nick Kunkel; seven grandchildren, Ashley Gaynor (Las Vegas), Brian Gaynor (Clovis), Weston and Wade Kandarian (Fresno), Cassie, Stephanie and Dylan Kandarian (Fresno); one great-grandson, Noah James Dacanay (Las Vegas); mother-in-law Toni Chavez (Orosi); as well as three brothers, John St. Germain (Maryann) of Cadyville, NY, Jim St. Germain (Joyce) of Plattsburg, NY, George St. Germain of Katyville, NY; and three sisters, Mary Welhouse (Jim) of Wisconsin, Pat St. Germain of Florida, Kate Williams of Plattsburg, NY; sister-in-law Sandy St. Germain; and 21 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Friday, February 19, 2:00 pm at Pardini’s, 2257 West Shaw, Fresno, CA, in Salons B-C. Bob will be buried in Plattsburg, NY, with a memorial service to be held there at a later date.

The family suggests donations may be made to Tahoe Forest Hospice, PO Box 7569, Truckee, CA 96160.

Bob was loved by many and will forever be with us in our hearts. May he rest in peace amongst the angels of heaven.
