Kinney, Col. John C. (US Army) 90, passed away peacefully on Dec. 8, 2009.
He is predeceased by his wife, Gladys McGill Kinney and is survived by his daughters, Alice Guerena, Janine Wolcott and Nancy McCall, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, friend and traveling companion Betsy Ludwig as well as friends and family who loved and respected him.
Jack, a native of Taft Ca. was a graduate of the University of Calif. Berkeley. In 1942 he joined the Army and served as a Medical Supply Officer during WWII in the European Theater. Before shipping out he married Gladys McGill of Pacific Grove, Ca. After the war Jack attended Hastings Law School and in 1949 he passed the California Bar. After a short stint in private practice he and Gladys decided to rejoin the Army and he became a Judge Advocate in 1950. He once again served his country in the Korean War. His many other duty stations include Japan, The Pentagon, Heidelberg Germany, Ft. Levenworth Kansas, the JAG School in Charlottesville, Va., the Panama Canal, NATO Hdqtrs in Naples Italy, the Southern Readiness Command in Tampa Fla. and his final duty station, the 6th Army Hdqtrs at the Presido of San Francisco.
After his retirement in 1979 Jack remained in San Francisco where he enjoyed many happy years traveling the world, playing golf, excorting traveling dignitaries around San Francisco, attending JAG Conferences, Old Soldier luncheons and spending time with his family and friends.
Jack will join his wife Gladys in the Arlington National Cementery on February 10, 2010.
His family wishes to thank the staff of the Court in Reno NV. for the care he received there in the last year of his life.
